Audrey’s Story . . .

Audrey at her photo shootI’d spent all my adult life cooking meals that I fancied and because of that, I thought about food all the time, so eating was constantly on my mind – I was in a vicious circle.circle with teeth The main turning point for me was when I took part in one of Jo’s 6 week challenges, and was emailed a Diet Record Sheet which helped me to get really organised.

I used the record sheets to produce a 4 week food plan which has turned into an 8 week plan and, as a former IT & Microsoft Office tutor I thought I’d put my skills to use and started my own food/diet database to record my daily intake with a calorie balance etc.  I couldn’t believe the difference all this made to my diet success.Audrey before her transformation

I refer to the plan and eat what is on it for that day and rarely make changes to it. Using a weekly shopping list, I only buy what I need for the meals on my plan. Having seen a weight loss virtually every week between March and October – I reached my goal weight – the weight I was when I was 18 and have, until now, only ever dreamt of being!

I no longer think of food in the same way I used to because I don’t fancy food in the same way now. This was most apparent last week whilst out to lunch with my daughter who had chips. I didn’t give them a second thought and when she asked me if I wanted one I was being honest with her and myself when I said, “No thanks”, it didn’t cross my mind to have one!

I always wondered if it is possible to be the same weight I was before I had children and what it would be like.  After all these years of being overweight and dieting, I now know that all I needed to do to achieve this was to be organised!

I’ve read all about writing lists and doing food diaries – I have done food diaries but looking back on it I was only writing what I had already eaten not what I was going to eat which (for me) as it turns out is what I needed to do. make a noteI realise for myself (and husband Steve who has also reached the weight he was at 20) that this works for us! I am the weight I was before I had children and I love it!

I know we always talk in terms of dieting but I feel that it isn’t dieting, it’s eating normal food, reducing the amount of calories as directed by Jo, my adviser  and increasing activity by attending brilliant, fun aerobics classes!! before and after shots of AudreyI have ultimately gone from size 18/20 to 8/10 and lost 5 stone, 10 pounds; the health benefits have been enormous.

I do the Great South Run every year, and my running speed and distance has increased enormously – this year I ran the 10 miles in 1 hour and 58 minutes – my knees can’t believe their luck that I have taken such a load off them. Think about weight loss

At 63 I would encourage anyone with a dream regardless of age and maybe finding the going a bit tough to keep going, the disadvantages are far outweighed by the benefits.

If you have a dream weight in your mind as I did, it can become a reality.  I too can buy ‘skinny’ jeans and small T shirts – I love going to try things on just to see that they fit!
